Fighting Hunger, Nourishing Hope

Fighting Hunger, Nourishing Hope

When drought or conflict strikes, NHDA delivers emergency food packages (maize, beans, oil) and nutrient-rich supplements to malnourished children and nursing mothers. Beyond crisis relief, we establish community gardens and train farmers in climate-smart agriculture to boost resilience. From refugee camps to drought-prone villages, our aid ensures no child sleeps hungry while laying groundwork for self-sufficiency.

We distribute emergency food packages and train farmers in sustainable agriculture to combat hunger.

How the Community Benefits

  • 🍲 Saves malnourished children with emergency food packages.

  • 🌾 Strengthens food security through farming training and tools.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Keeps families together by reducing displacement due to hunger.

  • 🏥 Supports health by pairing nutrition with medical care.

Food Package Distribution

Since 2009, NHDA has been providing monthly food packages to families facing chronic food insecurity.

Beneficiaries include widows, the elderly, child-headed households, and persons living with disabilities. Each package typically contains essential food items like maize flour, rice, beans, and cooking oil.

The goal is to support families through difficult times—whether due to drought, illness, or unemployment—while helping them transition toward more sustainable livelihoods. These distributions are carefully planned with local leaders and community volunteers to ensure fairness and transparency.

Annual Meat Distribution Project

NHDA organizes seasonal meat distributions for poor families who cannot afford to buy meat.

The project brings dignity and joy to households during festive seasons and other various seasons throughout the year, fostering a sense of inclusion and celebration.

This project has also created an opportunity for local farmers, as NHDA often sources the animals locally. Meat is distributed in hygienic, portioned packages to ensure safe handling and easy sharing. It’s a culturally significant intervention that promotes solidarity and shared happiness during special occasions.

Food aid tents – serving hot meals to communities

In addition to dry food packages, NHDA also sets up food aid tents that serve freshly cooked meals during certain seasons of the year.

These tents are located in urban slums and refugee settlements, providing free hot meals to thousands of people who come together across the whole country.

The tents offer more than just food—they create a space for community, prayer, and kindness.

Volunteers help with cooking and serving, while donors fund the food and ingredients. The food tents have become a source of hope and togetherness throughout communities.

Join hands with NHDA—your partnership can transform lives, restore dignity, and build resilient communities in Uganda. Together, we rise!
